Cancer Trials Ireland

A Highly Valued Collaborator

Cancer Trials Ireland is a highly valued national collaborator of the Irish Research Radiation Oncology Group (IRROG).

Cancer Trials Ireland’s mission is to serve as an indispensable, all-Ireland hub for cancer trials and to be globally recognised for excellence in governance, collaboration, and innovation in clinical research.

Patients joining trials

In recent years, Cancer Trials Ireland has achieved substantial growth in patient enrolment, including a 51% increase in 2024 compared with the previous year. Of particular note, radiotherapy clinical research study participation rose from 80 patients in 2023 to 218 in 2024, this is a testament to the strength of collaboration with IRROG and the growing national focus on radiation oncology research.

Working Together with IRROG

Cancer Trials Ireland serves as the sponsor for the majority of radiation oncology clinical research studies currently open or in follow-up across IRROG sites nationwide.

Together, Cancer Trials Ireland and IRROG have collaborated on several important investigator-led studies, including:

  • CTRIAL 18-33 SOURCE–LUNG: Stereotactic Ablative Radiation Therapy of Ultra-Central Lung Tumours
