Saolta Radiation Oncology Clinical Trials Unit

The Saolta Radiation Oncology Clinical Trials Unit, based at University Hospital Galway, is a leading centre for radiotherapy research in the west of Ireland. The unit is led by Consultant Radiation Oncologist and  IRROG Site Lead Prof. Joseph Martin, who oversees its clinical and research activities.

Working as the Galway Unit of IRROG, and in close partnership with the HRB Clinical Research Facility Galway, the unit ensures that patients have access to the latest radiotherapy innovations and high-quality clinical trials locally.

Professor Joe Martin

Here Professor Martin speaks about the the importance of research in improving cancer outcomes and the positive impact IRROG has had on clinical trial activity across the country.

“The only way we can really improve treatment and outcomes for patients is through research and through clinical trials in particular.”

Dedicated Research Team

The dedicated research team includes a Research Radiation Therapist, a Medical Physicist, and two Clinical Research Associates, who work collaboratively to design, coordinate, and deliver clinical trials that improve cancer care and patient outcomes.
